The Hazooria is a long cloth traditionally worn by Sikhs, especially while doing seva, kirtan, or while standing in the presence of Guru Sahib.
The word Hazooria comes from “Hazoor”, meaning presence*, reminding us that we are always in the presence of Waheguru.
Purpose & Practical Use
Beyond its spiritual meaning, the Hazooria also has practical significance, especially during seva:

🧼 Maintains Cleanliness & Hygiene
While doing seva, the Hazooria helps maintain cleanliness. It can be used instead of hands — for example, when coughing, wiping the mouth, or keeping oneself clean — ensuring seva is done respectfully and hygienically. -
🙏 Ideal During Seva & Langar
It allows Sikhs to continue seva without repeatedly touching the face or mouth, maintaining maryada and discipline. -
🕊 Symbol of Respect & Humility
Wearing a Hazooria reflects humility and awareness while serving others.
Historical Significance
During Puratan times, the Hazooria also had additional uses:

⚔️ Used as a Kamarkasa
Sikhs would sometimes tie the Hazooria around the waist as a kamarkasa, allowing them to stay ready, alert, and prepared when needed. -
